Gastroenterologist & Interventional Endoscopist
Dr Zaki Hamarneh is an Australian-trained Gastroenterologist and Interventional Endoscopist. He completed his specialist training in Gastroenterology and Hepatology in South Australia then undertook additional subspecialty fellowship training in interventional endoscopy at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, gaining extensive experience in advanced endoscopic management of complex gastrointestinal conditions.
Dr Hamarneh offers both general gastroenterology care and advanced endoscopic procedures, including gastroscopy and colonoscopy, complex polyp removal, balloon assisted enteroscopy, Barrett’s oesophagus endotherapy and specialised pancreatic
and biliary procedures such as Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS) and ERCP.
In addition to private practice, Dr Hamarneh holds a public appointment as a Staff Specialist at the Princess Alexandra Hospital since 2021, where he manages complex and tertiary-level referrals. He is also a Senior Lecturer at the University of Queensland School of Medicine and is actively involved in medical education and research.
Dr Hamarneh is known for his calm manner, thorough approach, careful listening, and clear, timely communication with both patients and referring GPs.
Outside of medicine, Zaki enjoys spending time with his family, travelling, and playing the piano.

- Difficulty swallowing (dysphagia)

- Assessment and management of pancreatic and biliary conditions using Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS) and ERCP
Dr Hamarneh offers rapid access and direct-access endoscopic procedures, allowing timely investigation and treatment without unnecessary delays for suitable patients.
Dr Hamarneh places strong emphasis on timely communication and collaborative care. Clear consultation summaries, procedure reports, and management plans are provided to referring GPs to support continuity of care. He is happy to accept referrals for both
routine gastroenterology assessment and complex endoscopic cases, and values open communication with referrers when clinical questions arise.
